Hear the low-down on college admissions, visit a museum for free, fish without a license, learn how to ride safely, and toast good wine and food.

It’s Thursday, and you’ve got no idea what you’ll do for the weekend. Patch is coming to the rescue. We’ve got the best bets for your done-work-outta-here time. Check our picks for the activities to hit this weekend.

College Admission Seminar
Where/When: ThinkTank Learning, 915 Main St., Suite C, Pleasanton; Saturday, Sept. 3, from 1:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Why Go: Be prepared as college applications are right around the corner. Learn the admission process from education consultant Eddie LaMeire, a former UCSC admissions officer. RSVP by calling 925-262-7930 or emailing pleasanton@ttlearning.com. (Walk-ins will not be accepted.)

Oakland Museum’s First Free Sunday
Where/When: Oakland Museum of California, 1000 Oak St., Oakland; Sunday, Sept. 4, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Why Go: Explore more than 300,000 square feet of California history including more than 1.8 million items. See the new exhibit about John Muir, with interactive displays that makes you feel you were on his journey.
Cost: Free (limited tickets available on a first come, first served basis)

Fish for Free Day
Where/When: Lake Chabot, 17600 Lake Chabot Rd., Castro Valley; Saturday, Sept. 3
Why Go: Don’t have a fishing license? No problem. Get hooked on fishing at the beautiful Lake Chabot without a license. Grab the baitand spend the day by the water. All fishing regulations still apply.
Cost: Free


Where/When: Hayward Public Library, Weekes Branch, 27300 Patrick Ave., Hayward; Saturday, Sept. 3, from 12:30 p.m. to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Learn the rules, rights and responsibilities of safe cycling on the road in this 3.5-hour classroom course. Ages 14 and over. No bike needed. Register at http://www.ebbc.org//index.php?q=civicrm/event/info&reset=1&id=196

Where/When: Chouinard Vineyards, 33853 Palomares Rd., Castro Valley; Saturday-Monday, Sept. 3-5, from noon to 5 p.m.
Why Go: Famil-owned, Chouinard Vineyards has a fruitful weekend planned for you. Start with a horror movie outside, followed by smooth wines, live music, exhibits and crafts.
