Where/When: Church of the Transfiguration, 4000 E. Castro Valley Blvd., Castro Valley; Saturday, July 20, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Why Go: Celebrate Transfiguration Church’s 50th anniversary by bringing friends and family to an all-day carnival filled with food and activities for all ages.
Cost: Varies, depending on food prices and activities


Where/When: PETCO, 3735 E. Castro Valley Blvd., Castro Valley; Saturday, July 30, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and Sunday, July 31, noon to 4 p.m.
Why Go: Even your furry, four-legged friends need their teeth clean and healthy!

Where/When: Saturday, July 30, 10 a.m. Start: 22392 Foothill Blvd., Hayward; end: 22701 Main St., Hayward)
Why Go: Go back in time to the historic old Hayward Union High School and get some exercise at the same time.
Cost: Adults $5; seniors and students, $3; Hayward Area Historical Society members, free

JENNY LIN FOUNDATION CONCERT
Where/When: Redwood Chapel Community Church, 19300 Redwood Rd., Castro Valley; Friday, July 29, at 7 p.m.
Why Go: Hear what the Jenny Lin Youth Music Program students have been rehearsing all summer all while supporting the foundation in honor of Jenny Lin’s love and talent for music.
Cost: Free


Where/When: 1 Southland Mall, Hayward; Thursday, July 28, 7:30 p.m.; Friday, July 29, 8 p.m.; Saturday, July 30, 2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m.; Sunday, July 31, 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 7 p.m.; Monday, Aug. 1, 6:30 p.m.
Why Go: Get a chance to see this animal-free but spectacular circus, which just traveled from Newark's NewPark Mall. Expect plenty of entertainment, from clowns to acrobats and everything in between.
