Citizens Panel Named to Oversee BART Police

The 11-member committee will advise BART officials and investigate citizen complaints of police misconduct.

An 11-member citizens' panel has been named to oversee the BART police department.

The BART board of directors today approved the Citizen Review Board.

The group was selected from a pool of 40 candidates. After receiving training, they will listen to BART riders and provide input to BART officials about the agency's police officers.

The panel will report directly to the BART board.

Among their duties:

  • Review and monitor changes to the system's police practices
  • Review citizen complaints about police misconduct
  • Advise the agency's general manager and police chief
  • Meet periodically with BART police association members

The eleven members of the Citizen Review Board are:

  1. Angeli, Sue - Pleasant Hill (Police Union)
  2. Barnett, Peter D. - Oakland (District 4)
  3. Beshears, Sukari - Pittsburg (District 2)
  4. Douglas, Benjamin L. - Lafayette (District 1)
  5. Hambleton, Douglas N. - Danville (District 5)
  6. Jones, Ken, San Francisco (District 8)
  7. Kidd, Sharon Anne - Berkeley (District 7)
  8. Mensinger, Les - Fremont (District 6)
  9. Perezvelez, George D. - Berkeley (District 9)
  10. White, William C. - Oakland (District 3)
  11. Scaife, Jennifer - Berkeley (At Large)

Another problem: When notified of a reply to a comment I could click the link in the email to go toRead More the article. That was not possible this time. So because a small minority zooms there computer the layout should be as it is? I don't think so. All that white space means that an article that could be read with just one or two clicks to scroll through is now going to take more scrolling to view. One thing that seems to be missing in today's world are web designers who (1) change the layout just because and (2) web designers who have neglected to consider the audience. The more I look at this layout the less I like it. The font needs to be darker than it is. the blue (like in "announcements") needs to be bolder. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 best), I rank the new "improved" design a 3.
