BART Releases Information on Accident Last Week

Transit agency says 73-year-old woman was discovered underneath a train at Bay Fair station in San Leandro last week.

BART officials are releasing new details about a woman .

BART spokesman Jim Allison said the 73-year-old woman is
undergoing a psychiatric evaluation at a hospital today after last week's incident, which disrupted service on three lines.

The woman, whose name is not being released due to federal privacy
law, was rushed to a hospital after a witness spotted her running toward the track and jumping down onto the trackway, Allison said.

The woman ended up underneath a Fremont-to-Richmond train. She had no visible injuries but said that her knee hurt, he said.

The incident happened about 3:20 p.m. Service was suspended for nearly 30 minutes at the Bay Fair, Oakland Coliseum, Hayward and Castro Valley stations.

There were significant delays in service that afternoon until almost 5 p.m.
