There is only one way you could have missed the news- hey Rip VanWinkle, the election is coming.
We have all been beaten over the head with political rhetoric, our Facebook walls have been painted red or blue with words, we are looking at old friends in new ways because, “I can’t believe they would vote for ‘that; guy.”
And yet voting is still one of our most basic and most precious (you have to say that last part in Golem voice) rights.
Quick aside, my father lives in Australia where voting is compulsory. Question: What is scarier than an island full of drunken, Australian rules football playing, convict people voting? Answer: Probably a bunch of competent Americans who forego that right.
My wife and I started voting absentee a long time ago, but I still miss that polling place excitement, the camaraderie of standing in line with a bunch of folks who would likely call me a jackass if they knew who or what I was voting for. I would hate for anyone not to get that chance to vote.
So, here is an absolutely true offer for anyone who lives and votes in Castro Valley. If for some reason you need transportation to and from your polling station I’m your man.
I don’t need to know who you’re voting for, this is a nonpartisan offer, we can talk about the weather or the Castro Valley Boulevard updates, or you can talk about the Giants and I will pretend to listen. The only partisan static you may be subjected to by me is a small, Yes on 30, No on 32, decal on my truck. If said decal is likely to influence you or make you break out in hives I will remove it for the duration of the trip.
Now, I work on Tuesday, so the ride would have to be in the early evening, however, through the CVLegends Facebook page, several other community minded patriots have also volunteered to provide rides within Castro Valley. All you have to do is contact me and we will bend over backwards to make sure you get to and from your Castro Valley polling place safely.
If you live and vote in Castro Valley and you need a ride to your polling place you can contact me at CVLegends@gmail.com You can find us at www.facebook.com/CVLegends Or if you don’t have access to the internet, in which case I don’t know how you could be reading this, because it’s a blog, you can crank call me, I mean phone me at (510)329-1360.
Castro Valley has a big heart and a big sense of pride. We might be unincorporated, but we are united in spirit, get out and vote Castro Valley. Thank you and good day.
