Rep. Swalwell to Hold Press Conference in Hayward to Announce Bill Supporting Local Economic Development

Congressman Eric Swalwell will hold a press conference on Friday, March 8 in Hayward to announce the Main Street Revival Act, his first bill as a Member of Congress.

HAYWARD, CA – On Friday, March 8 at 12:30 PM, Congressman Eric Swalwell (CA-15) will hold a press conference to announce HR 952, the Main Street Revival Act, his first bill as a Member of Congress. The Main Street Revival Act aims to spur economic development in the East Bay, by enabling certain small business in economically depressed areas to defer their first year of payroll taxes. The press conference will take place in front of empty storefronts on the corner of B and Main Streets in Hayward to highlight the neighborhoods that will benefit from the legislation.

The legislation limits the tax deferral to new businesses with fewer than 25 employees located in underutilized business zones as designated by the Small Business Administration. Congressman Swalwell will be joined at the event by business, community, and political leaders in Hayward and the surrounding areas.

Congressman Swalwell was elected in November 2012 to serve the people of the Fifteenth District, which encompasses the East Bay. He pledged that, if elected, his first bill would focus on economic development to help create jobs and grow the local economy.
