Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) held its Earth Day and Bay-Friendly Gardening Workshop last night. Registrants enjoyed a relaxed atmosphere while learning about CVSan, upcoming 4/26 Earth Day and Recycles Day events, the history of Earth Day, California and Mediterranean Plants, and Bay-Friendly Gardening.
A variety of Bay-Friendly literature was available including the Bay-Friendly Gardening-From your backyard to the Bay, A Bay-Friendly Garden Starts with Healthy Soil, Choosing and Finding the Right Plants, Go Native: Planting for Pollinators, a Go Native Plant List, Don’t Plant a Pest! – Trees in California and Don’t Plant a Pest! – San Francisco Bay Area, Bay–Friendly Home Gardener Events – Lose Your Lawn Nursery Talks, and a redemption card for a 20% discount on Bay-Friendly plants from the Bay-Friendly Plant list at a partner nursery.
Following the presentation was a discussion and example of sheet mulching by Lori Caldwell from StopWaste. In addition to reusable bags to registrants who will help the environment by using their bag when shopping, CVSan handed out a fats, oil, and grease (FOG) scraper.
