Sprouts & Shutters: Local Orchard Supply Hardware Fans May Flee To Floresta

The San Lorenzo store will be closing. Fans of the chain may want to head to the newly-refurbished San Leandro location at 300 Floresta Boulevard.

There have been some hard feelings as the Orchard Supply Hardware in San Lorenzo has been going through a long process of shutting down.

If it's any consolation, a newly-refurbished Orchard store has reopened in San Leandro at 300 Floresta Boulevard where it intersects Washington Avenue.

Of the 89 stores in the Orchard chain only a dozen or so have the new look.

Patch wasn't allowed to take pictures inside the new San Leandro store so a few outdoor shots and interior observations must suffice.

The sign now emphasizes "Orchard" as part of a campaign by the chain to outgrow its old "OSH" moniker.

The nursery section also has a separate entrance and exit, complete with checkout station.

Company officials say the new store layout is based on a racetrack design that encourages customers to walk around the store rather than to thread up and down aisles.

The interior feels more spacious even though the square footage of the building is unchanged.

The polished stone floor looks great and there is fresh paint throughout.

There is a "Workbench" station opposite the return desk at the main entrance. It looks like a handy spot to get keys and other hands-on help or get directed where you need to go.

Alas, it isn't in San Lorenzo. But it's close.

If you visit the store leave a comment about your observations.
