'Shop The Boulevard' Campaign Continues Until June

A county official says that a "Shop Local" marketing effort may possibly arise from the "Shop the Boulevard" campaign once the Boulevard's Streetscape project is completed in September.

Despite the and the , the "Shop The Boulevard" campaign will continue on through June.

The $70,000 marketing campaign was implemented since last year to help bring who .

According to Bill Lambert, the county's Assistant Director of Economic Development, the "Shop CV Blvd" website remains under contract and operational until then.

Lambert added that the Castro Valley Forum will resume posting the “Shop The Boulevard” ad with its roster of roughly 100 participating merchants.

He advised merchants to “push on” through the end of June by continuing to to offer customers along with related specials.

Castro Valley Rotary Club's monthly prize drawing for customers using the "Boulevard Bucks" recently held its last drawing in April.

"Rotary is now working on another event to boost downtown activity. Stay tuned for that news," Lambert said in an email he sent out last week.

Save Our Schools Castro Valley! (SOSCV!), which had initially partnered up with the campaign, separated months ago and continues to supporting both busineses and schools.

At the end of June, Lambert plans to announce the conclusion of the marketing effort, which will also be posted on the website, Facebook and Twitter accounts.

He added that a “Shop Local” marketing effort, led by a private sector and , could grow from the “Shop the Boulevard” campaign post-construction. 

"Due to funding shortfalls and staff turnover at both the Redevelopment Agency and the Chamber, this has not materialized," Lambert said in the email.
