Pyzano's Pizzaria Remains Closed Due to Plumbing Issue

The co-owner hopes to reopen the restaurant as soon as these issues are resolved.

After , a few readers have expressed concern, wondering if is to follow.

For several weeks, the restaurant has remained mostly closed.

However, Co-Owner Frank Gemignani said folks can rest assured. Pyzano's will not be closing down permanently. He told Patch that the eatery is currently undergoing plumbing repair issues.

Gemignani hopes to reopen the restaurant as soon possible.

Editor's Note: The updated post on this from April 1 regarding Pyzano's opening for dinner that evening was incorrect information. In no way was that an "April Fools Joke" either. The store remains closed for now as the plumbing issues continue to get resolved.

What is/was the plumbing problem?
Analisa Harangozo (Editor) March 21, 2012 at 03:34 pm
Michelle, he didn't go into much detail about it but basically said it was the main reason for the delay in reopening.

We enjoy the Calzones as well as the pizza at Pyzanos`....altho they are a meal and a half, always fun to bring some home.....We have a group that tries to get together there about once a month......altho our tastes are varied, most of us enjoy sausage and ham.

Yum.. I think it's time for lunch!

Interesting!!! It seems I hear the same kind of a story about opening up at the Rebuilt restaurant across the street from the (then) Longs drugs store and promises made over and over that it would open up and it NEVER did. I question the "plumbing" problems and wondering if it's not something else.
Nancy Pascale March 24, 2012 at 03:27 am
I have a tendency to agree with you Sid, nobody seems to know what is going on.
Nancy MacGregor Hill March 27, 2012 at 05:36 pm
I would actually love to see Pyzano's move to the former Palomares Cafe, where they'd have a much bigger dining area, bar, and outdoor patio (which could be fixed up very nicely). And if they could also open up the other place by CVS, that would be great too - CV is in desperate need of more places to eat out!
Frank@Pyzano's April 1, 2012 at 07:01 pm
Pyzano's will not be open tonight. This is some kind of cruel joke that Analisa and the Patch are pulling. It's bad enough that I am not able to reopen at this time but now I need to explain to people that I am
not opening. Thanks!
Analisa Harangozo (Editor) April 2, 2012 at 01:04 am
Frank, I want to apologize for ever posting that (which actually came from a trusted reader of ours.. never really considered it to be an April Fools joke). Anyway, I also apologize for keeping it up this long (I had been out of town for a majority of the day and had forgotten my phone at home). In no way were we trying to mislead our readers or intended to hurt a local business.

Love the SF (spinach/feta) and the True Italian. Waiting with watering mouth for the re-opening.
Russ Leavitt April 29, 2012 at 06:50 pm
Pyzano's could easily keep their customers informed by putting a message on their phone or website. We're in the dark as much as the restaurant.
Nancy Pascale April 29, 2012 at 07:15 pm
Russ, if you call there is a message on phone, then wait and another one also....but i do not think anyone actually knows what is going on......i sure miss them!

Any update on the status of the work? Looked thru the windows over the weekend and all looks in place... except for the pizza and cold beer
Jason H. June 8, 2012 at 08:57 pm
Sure seems like they're out of business.
Analisa Harangozo (Editor) June 8, 2012 at 11:23 pm
Hi All — Spoke with Frank earlier today. He hopes to update Patch some time next week with Pyzano's status. Hang in there!
Gary Allsebrook June 13, 2012 at 06:35 pm
This is next week - what's the deal?
Maureen June 19, 2012 at 01:22 am
Yeah what's going on?
Phyllis Hanan June 20, 2012 at 01:56 pm
Pysanno's has been a great place for pizza for a long time. If they are closing, it is sad, and hopefully it won't come to that. Instead of speculating on what will be, I'd like to thank Frank and Tony for many many years of providing Castro Valley with a great place for the entire family with the best pizza ever. Thanks guys, you are appreciated and the best to you in whatever path you take.

I too tend to agree with Sid. My wife and I visited Pyzano's doors on June 20 to see if we could see anything through the doors. We saw that EVERYTHING had been removed, even the oven. Seriously, if it were a plumbing issue, why would the oven be removed? I'm very suspicious of anyone saying that they are reopening here.
I'd also like to propose that the 50s restaurant that Frank Gemignani was supposed to open several years ago (located next to Rudy's Donuts) never opened despite comments stating that they would. It hasn't been until a new owner came in that movement has been made on the restaurant. Not sure that I believe (or understand why he would even state) any comments suggesting that he will definitely reopen. Frank really hasn't proven himself to be truthful. I will miss going to Pyzano's and the wonderful food we always got there along with all the staff that made going there such a treat. Castro Vally can write this one up as a loss along with several other establishments that we have lost just this year alone.
Nancy Pascale June 23, 2012 at 02:51 pm
Very well said Kyle, i think you have put everything into perspective.
Paul Vargas July 13, 2012 at 10:33 pm
I heard a rumor that it's a personal issue with the owners. But, that's what rumors are...rumors.
Nancy Pascale July 13, 2012 at 11:30 pm
perhaps an update on plumbing article could be beneficial for those who do not know that Pyzanos is now closed for good.
Analisa Harangozo (Editor) July 13, 2012 at 11:46 pm
Good suggestion, Nancy. Here's the link to the last article we did on Pyzano's closure: http://castrovalley.patch.com/articles/pyzano-s-pizzeria-announces-its-official-closure
Russ Banks July 23, 2012 at 02:21 pm
The signage is gone. The furniture is gone. The oven is gone. Pyzano's is gone. Period.

If CV is great, and I am not disputing that fact, why would you want to change it's nature?Read More Wouldn't that change the very things that you are trying to protect and preserve?
Ken Martin June 11, 2013 at 12:50 pm
You can't compare Castro Valley with Menlo Park. Menlo Park is on the edge of Silicon Valley and hasRead More much more income per capita than Castro Valley could ever hope to have. Certainly the county is a lousy and unfair administrator, but we can at least afford them (somewhat). It is extremely unlikely that we could support a city unless you lie a lot about our finances like the incorporation proponents did during the last election.
