Orchard Supply Hardware has confirmed that it will remodel its San Leandro store even as it closes its San Lorenzo operation.
In July, when Patch wrote about the likely closure of the OSH on Lewelling Boulevard, dozens of residents posted comments ranging from angry to sad.
"If they close our OSH on Lewelling, we should NEVER shop at the Floresta store," wrote long-time San Lorenzo resident Keith Barros.
Others blamed the lengthy streetscape project on Lewelling for fouling up access to stores and complicating the survival of merchants on the strip.
Confirmation of San Lorenzo's loss and San Leandro's gain came in a Mercury News story that said both changes would occur in the first half of 2013.
OSH, which lost $26.7 million in its most recent financial period, must have decided that it couldn't support two stores just 3.1 miles apart.
What do you think about the closure. Will you remain an OSH shopper or find another outlet? Which?

I have not seen the commercials Rob Raistlin is referring to. If that is true, then it is unfortunate. The lease rate of that store is what will decide what other business will go in there. There are several other hardware stores I think could benefit from the big store and seperate parking. I am sure there are non hardware stores which could also benefit from this location, but it will depend if they can generate enough business to pay for the lease and still make money.
Keep SLZ OSH Open!
I know all of this because I worked at the San Lorenzo store for 5 years or so in the late 80's. They are really being stupid if they actually close the San Lorenzo store. It's always done better sales. I guess the Lewelling Blvd Widening probably dropped sales, but they should be up and running and better than ever.
