New Vendors, Products and Features at the San Lorenzo Farmers' Market

The market kicks off the 2012 season on May 5 and is open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.

For the fourth year in a row, the will open at former in San Lorenzo starting May 5.

This year it plans to feature specialty products that weren’t available last year such as soap, cheese, handmade soups, sauerkraut, and olive oil.

In addition, more options on organic produce will be available.

Curtis’ Jammin’ Kettle Korn will be back serving delicious caramel, cinnamon, and sugared kettle corns.

The farmers market is also adding a new hot-food vendor, BFree Dogs, which serve a variety of gourmet hot dogs and sausages.

And Metropolis Baking will be returning with their beautiful artisan breads ranging from challah to focaccia.

Looking ahead, here's a list of this season’s big events:

May 5 — Opening day and Cinco de Mayo celebration along with an season-opener ribbon-cutting ceremony with the . Kids can join in on the market's scavenger hunt for “carrot cash” (vouchers that can be used in the market).

June 16 — Chef-led tours in the market by market chef, Mario Hernandez. He will lead walking tours (two sessions: 10:30 a.m. and 12 p.m.) through the market to talk about seasonal produce and give advice on recipes.

July 21 — Celebrate Environmental Day by biking to market event. Extra bike parking spaces will be available. Help plant an egg carton garden. Free re-useable bags will be provided by the Alameda County Clean Water Program.

Sept. 8 — The “Grill Crazy” event kicks off with chef Hernandez who will be doing free grilling demonstrations using seasonal fruits and veggies.

Oct. 6 — To celebrate Local Sports Day, kids can join in on a scavenger hunt in the market for a prize. They can also enter to win soccer equipment. Dress in your little league uniform to receive $2 in carrot cash!
