More Than 80 Merchants to Participate in 'Boulevard Bucks' Promotion

Coupons could make it easier for consumers to save money in downtown Castro Valley and could potentially help save the downtown itself.

"Boulevard Bucks” are now available for consumers to print out on the new "Shop the Boulevard" website which launched this morning.

In an e-mail sent Tuesday night Bill Lambert, the county’s assistant director of economic development, said more than 80 merchants will participate in the initiative.

The promotion is part of a marketing campaign expected to begin on Monday, Oct. 10. A companion program that supports public schools begins Thursday, Oct. 13.

Thursday Dine Out supports local schools through Save Our Schools Castro Valley!, which has raised more $55,000 since May 2009, counting in-kind donations of services as well as cash donations. Learn more about Thursday Dine Out and the 15 restaurants participating in our .

The marketing campaign — a collaboration among civic groups, the and the — is a response to the once began last October on Castro Valley Boulevard.

Eventually, the boulevard will be beautiful, once the county completes a intended to make the area more inviting.

Consumers can participate in two ways:

  1. Use the Boulevard Bucks to save on merchandise or services offered with the promotion
  2. Enter to win a monthly drawing where a minimum of 5 gift certificates of $20 each will be awarded per month.

The Boulevard Buck promotion expires after April 2012.

Another problem: When notified of a reply to a comment I could click the link in the email to go toRead More the article. That was not possible this time. So because a small minority zooms there computer the layout should be as it is? I don't think so. All that white space means that an article that could be read with just one or two clicks to scroll through is now going to take more scrolling to view. One thing that seems to be missing in today's world are web designers who (1) change the layout just because and (2) web designers who have neglected to consider the audience. The more I look at this layout the less I like it. The font needs to be darker than it is. the blue (like in "announcements") needs to be bolder. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 best), I rank the new "improved" design a 3.
