Local Cake Decorator Catches Attention of Celebrity Comedians

Misti Short of Castro Valley continues to rake in awards from Bay Area cake-decorating competitions and has even made cakes for celebrities.

A Castro Valley woman's cakes aren't just winning contests, they're also winning the hearts of celebrity comedians.

Misti Short, a Castro Valley local, had recently made cakes for George Lopez and Anjelah Johnson.

The armature cake decorator started decorating cakes about two years ago, but you wouldn't think that by the looks of them or the awards she's been racking up.

Back in April, in the Contra Costa Cake and Sugar Art Society's (CCCSAS) Sixth Annual Show Competition.

In June, she entered the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano's second annual Cupcake War at the Admiral’s Garden fundraising event on Mare Island. There, she competed against several business owners and ended up winning with her moist vanilla cake and pink lemonade cream filling.

Most recently, Short had entered five cakes at the Alameda County Fair. Two of them are for display only and three were entered into the competition. She won first and second place for the adult decorated cake division and second place for the wedding cake division.

"I think it's about time to become an official business, eh?" Short told Castro Valley Patch.

Another problem: When notified of a reply to a comment I could click the link in the email to go toRead More the article. That was not possible this time. So because a small minority zooms there computer the layout should be as it is? I don't think so. All that white space means that an article that could be read with just one or two clicks to scroll through is now going to take more scrolling to view. One thing that seems to be missing in today's world are web designers who (1) change the layout just because and (2) web designers who have neglected to consider the audience. The more I look at this layout the less I like it. The font needs to be darker than it is. the blue (like in "announcements") needs to be bolder. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 best), I rank the new "improved" design a 3.
