Evan’s Lightning McQueen For Sale

Bidding starts at $2,000 for this tricked-out toy car that’s been featured in national headlines and TV shows. The car was modified at a local motorsports shop.

If you’re one of the 3 million and counting who’ve seen in a souped-up Fisher Price Power Wheels, then you’ve probably asked yourself: How can I get my hands on one of those?

You might be in luck. The tricked-out toy-turned-electric bad boy based on Cars’ character Lightning McQueen is currently available for auction on eBay. Bidding starts at $2,000 and closes this Sunday, Aug. 26.

“So many people asked for it, so we might as well let people have it,” said Sean Burgess, Evan’s father and co-owner of FFTec Motorsports, located on the Hayward-Union City border.

The proud parent is being touted as “Father of the Year” by various media outlets after a video of the making of the car went viral. It was subsequently featured on national TV newsmagazine Right This Minute and numerous websites, including the LA Times website, CBS News, Yahoo!, Wild 94.9 and more.

Though it’s only been a few weeks since the car was completed, Sean said he’s ready to start another project with his son. Evan’s got his eye on the updated Lightning McQueen, which sports newer stickers and features based on the sequel, Cars 2.

Sean said he put more than $1,000 in parts into the first modified toy car and spent countless hours putting it together, including time spent teaching Evan how to use tools and do some of the work himself. The FFTec team spent four months altogether constructing the bad boy. Sean hopes the eBay auction will help him recoup some of the cost and help fund the next project.

“It was a really big project; it was really elaborate,” Sean said.

Evan’s rebooted Lightning McQueen is equipped with steel rims and rubber tires, a 500-watt .66 horsepower electric motor, 24-volt electric batteries, a custom aluminum frame, a solid rear axle, rear disk brake, an upgraded steering wheel and speed control, among other modifications.

The customized car could be yours (or, well, your son’s). If you want to put your bid in for Evan’s Lightning McQueen, visit their eBay page.

Another problem: When notified of a reply to a comment I could click the link in the email to go toRead More the article. That was not possible this time. So because a small minority zooms there computer the layout should be as it is? I don't think so. All that white space means that an article that could be read with just one or two clicks to scroll through is now going to take more scrolling to view. One thing that seems to be missing in today's world are web designers who (1) change the layout just because and (2) web designers who have neglected to consider the audience. The more I look at this layout the less I like it. The font needs to be darker than it is. the blue (like in "announcements") needs to be bolder. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 best), I rank the new "improved" design a 3.
