Hundreds Get Their Five Guys Burgers and Fries Fix

After a two-week delay due to electrical issues, the burger franchise finally opened its doors to more than 250 customers on Saturday.

Ten people were already waiting in line before doors even opened at the new Five Guys Bugers and Fries restauraunt at Hayward's Skywest Commons on Saturday.

This marked the by partners Rakesh Kumar and Jose Garzona. They and Fremont a few months ago. Rajesh said a forth in Burlingame is in the works and should be open by next month.

Garzona, who grew up in the Hayward area, said they hired about 50 local students from neighboring high schools and colleges.

Most of them worked at some point during the grand opening, where over 250 customers ordered signature burgers, fries, hotdogs and sandwiches.

Adam and Misty Gonzalez chowed down on some Five Guys burgers for the first time and said it wouldn't be their last.

"I like it. I think it tastes more like homemade" Misty Gonzalez said. 

The chain has been rated in the annual Zagat Survey since 2001 and was listed as the No. 1 burger in the nation for the past three years by the restaurant review site.

Kumar said Five Guys never relies on advertising, just media articles and word-of-mouth.

When asked about the , Kumar said he feels confident that the way Five Guys burgers are made will keep customers full, happy and coming back for more.
