Castro Valley Freeway Accident Injures Two Women

Two women were injured when the vehicles they were driving eastbound on Interstate 580 collided Saturday, according to CHP.

A two-car crash on Interstate Highway 580 in Castro Valley
Saturday afternoon sent both drivers to the hospital to be treated for a range of injuries, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The collision was reported a short time before 2 p.m. Saturday on eastbound Highway 580 west of Lake Chabot Regional Park.

A 27-year-old Oakland woman was driving a Chrysler Sebring on the highway when, for reasons unknown, she veered the car over the left, crossing over into the left-hand lane and crashing into a Jeep Cherokee, CHP said.

Both cars continued heading northeast until they each crashed into the roadway's concrete divider wall, officers said.

CHP officers found the 27-year-old woman unconscious and the other driver, a 55-year-old Pleasanton woman, suffering from moderate facial injuries and pain to her face, chest and ribs.

Both were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment.

The crash remains under investigation.
