Local Band, Music Video Director Linked Through Love of 'The Goonies'

A classic film is a director's inspiration for a new music video for San Lorenzo pop-punk band The Dialed.

For the past two weeks, Beatriz Aguilar has been glued to her computer editing a music video for .

The Dialed’s official Facebook page dubs the band a "pop-punk/hardcore" group influenced by acts such as Blink-182, New Found Glory, and Mest.

Aguilar, a San Lorenzo local and film student at Ohlone College in Fremont, said she came up with the idea for the "Goonies"-themed music video after discovering that she and the band shared a mutual adoration of the film.

“The song is called ‘We had Our Hands on the Future But Blew It All to Save Our Own Lives.’ It’s a line from the film ‘The Goonies.’" Aguilar said. "When I realized that the guys were fans of the movie, I knew I wanted to work with them."

Aguilar explained that the manner in which she and the band met was similarly incidental to the nostalgic connection that they shared.

“My sister works with the mother of one of the band member’s. She shared the song with me, and I decided I wanted to make their video,” Aguilar said.

According to Aguilar, the video is a juxtaposition of the band playing a mock-show and the members acting out scenes from “The Goonies.”

The show was filmed at Mojo’s in Fremont, and “The Goonies” scenes were filmed in a band member’s garage in San Lorenzo.

“I collaborated with the band to come up with idea’s for the different shots,” Aguilar said. “And I used borrowed equipment to do the lighting.”

According to Aguilar, the video has one more scheduled day of shooting in December and should be released shortly after.

Her promotion plans include submitting the video to film festivals and sharing it through social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube.
