Day at the Casa, Paw-A-Thon and More Weekend Fun

Here are our picks for fun local events this weekend for you and your family.

In town for the weekend and without a plan? We have some ideas for you: 

What: An afternoon of fun with your family. Bring a picnic, your suit, a towel and be ready to play in our pool.

When/Where: Friday, 1:00 p.m.-4:45 p.m.; San Leandro Aquatic Center

Price: $3 per person for the first 250 people to register; $5 at the door

 

What: Come listen to the African drums of Samba, Samba at this family-friendly event, part of the summer series, "San Leandro Reads Goes on Safari."

When/Where: Friday, 7 p.m.-8:30 p.m., San Leandro Main Library, 300 Estudillo Ave.

Price: Free

 

What: This Pulitzer Prize-winning drama stars Elwood, a beloved, if different, man whose best friend is a six-foot-tall pooka rabbit named Harvey. The story gets interesting when Elwood's sister and niece decide to commit him to an asylum. 

When/Where: Friday and Saturday, 8 p.m.; Sunday, 6 p.m.; Chanticleer Theatre, 3683 Quail Ave., Castro Valley

Price: $18 general; $15 students/seniors

 

What: A one-mile fundraising walk to benefit Four Paws Society; petting zoo; pet Best Trick Contest; demonstrations by Alameda County Fire Department Rescue Dog and San Leandro Police Department K9 Unit; low-cost vaccinations, low-cost micro-chipping and more.

When/Where: Saturday, 10 a.m.-2 p.m.; Marina Park, Monarch Bay and Fairway Drive

Price: $20 registration fee

 

What: The San Leandro Historical Society presents a day of crafts and games, Mexican folk dance, a raffle and silent auction, and "unch alfresco" in the courtyard of the historic Casa Peralta.

When/Where: Sunday,  11:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Casa Peralta, 384 W. Estudillo Ave.

Price: $25 members; $30 nonmembers; $10 youth (12-18 years old); $5 child (under 12)
