Where in Castro Valley?

Where is this inviting picnic place?

With our unpredictible weather we may yet get some good picnic days in the weeks ahead.

Where is this inviting spot?

Please make a guess in the comments below.

After a false start, Nathan correctly guessed that the Giants fan in last week's picture puzzle was making a purchase from Swiss Delices on Santa Maria.

That fan is Castro Valley resident Scott Pfefer, who runs a jewlery store in Pleasanton.

Patch caught up with him on his day off when he indulges in two of his favorite treats: a sandwich from Bob's Hoagy Steaks in Hayward followed by some truffles from Swiss Delices.

"Nine months ago I was told I had six months to live," Pfefer said, thus on his free day he thinks: if this was my last day to live, what would I eat, and the hoagy and truffles are it.

Last week we showed the back of his head, with the Giants insignia cut into his hair. This week, we uploaded a picture of Scott Pfefer facing the lens. Click on the other photograph with this story.

Have photos around that you'd like featured? Send them to editor tom.abate@patch.com and see if you can tease the Valley.

That dog was on Joseph drive on Saturday morning. I was on my way to the airport or I would haveRead More tried to help him! He/she seemed pretty skittish, poor thing.

Another problem: When notified of a reply to a comment I could click the link in the email to go toRead More the article. That was not possible this time. So because a small minority zooms there computer the layout should be as it is? I don't think so. All that white space means that an article that could be read with just one or two clicks to scroll through is now going to take more scrolling to view. One thing that seems to be missing in today's world are web designers who (1) change the layout just because and (2) web designers who have neglected to consider the audience. The more I look at this layout the less I like it. The font needs to be darker than it is. the blue (like in "announcements") needs to be bolder. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 best), I rank the new "improved" design a 3.
