Rubble! It brings down the core of Castro Valley. Build something that the community needs that will improve the revenue stream, so CV can become a self sufficient city.

What a perfect location for a good brew pub and eatery like Pyramid Alehouse, Pacific Coast Brewing or even Lagunitas brewery. Bring a little upscale class to our fine town.

Tear down the building, and if property still doesn't sell, convert the location to a small park or town square.

It would probably be too costly to try to bring the building up to code, so I agree with other comments about tearing it down first. Then make the lower floor or floors, a parking garage and put a high-end restaurant on the top floor with large banquet rooms for the many organizations looking for a place to have their conferences and/or conventions. Village shoppers could also use the parking area because parking is hard to find at the Village during many times during the day.

I think this building should be a play place for young children 4 and under and a place for school kids of all ages to have a safe place to go do homework or socialize.

I and some other folks in Castro Valley are advocating for the building to be torn down and transformed into a town square. The Municipal Advisory Council (MAC) will take up the item at its Tuesday, February 4, 2014 meeting. Castro Valley Matters (https://www.facebook.com/CastroValleyMatters) and "Let's tear down Daughtery's and build a town square for Castro Valley" (https://www.facebook.com/cvtownsquare) will be sharing information about the proposal and vision for a town square. We believe that Castro Valley needs a focal point in its downtown, a place where the community will gather. A town square could enhance how we view downtown, creating a physical environment where people will want to hang out, grab a bite to eat, do a little shopping. Please contact us at either Facebook page. And let us know what you would like to see at Castro Valley's town square.

I believe this building should be torn down and a new 2-story covered parking garage should be built in its place. I would also add a decorative front to the building and plenty of trees to enhance its appearance in keeping with our new street-scape. If we don't have more parking, we are going to continue to lose business in the Village and on the Boulevard to the malls. More parking means more business. Do it now!

I agree with Michael that the best solution is to raze the building and develop a town square. What a great way to bind and build a stronger community than to develop a welcoming place to gather. Imagine grabbing an ice cream at Knudsen's Ice Creamery or Loard's Ice Creamery and then walking over to the town square to sit on the lawn and watch a movie on a warm summer evening. It is a great idea to increase foot traffic and encourage folks to patronize local businesses.

I love the town square idea! Castro Valley is already a great community, like Dorothy said…it would be a great place for everyone to gather together.

People really should check out the Tear down Daughtery's facebook page to see what is being proposed at the MAC meeting. Tearing down the building will free up parking that is vital to the downtown area, and create an amazing space for the community.

Brewpub! Think of how nice B Street is in Hayward with Buffalo Bill's right across from the movie theater and yogurt shops. This is a perfect spot for a brewpub/eatery, with decent walking access to the Chabot theater and the village. It could be a fantastic anchor to the newly revitalized boulevard. I would go there and then to a movie and then to either the Ice Creamery or Loard's for dessert!

We can call the new Castro Valley Town Square "Peoples Park"
