The corner of E. 14 Street and 159th Avenue was anything but quiet during National "Silence the Violence" Day.
Honks of support came from passing cars that drove past dozens of local youth from San Lorenzo, San Leandro, Ashland and Cherryland, who banded together to protest against neighborhood violence.
Many protestors held up signs and taped their mouths shut with duct tape as a form of expression. But others cheered on as cars continued to honk during the two hour rally.
The event, put on by the the Alameda County Deputy Sheriffs' Activity League (DSAL), also received support from various East Bay organizations like Women on the Way and the Vuitton E. Meals Youth Development Center.
