Poll: Is Redwood Road a "Magnet for Devastating Crashes?"

According to KTVU, the road dubbed "Redwood Racetrack" between Oakland and Castro Valley is notorious for devastating crashes.

Despite being a popular road for cyclists, Redwood Road is also becoming notorious for devastating crashes according to KTVU.

In a recent news story, the local station said this road, between Oakland and Castro Valley, has seen its share of accidents.

Most recently, a bicyclist in his 60s is being hospitalized at Highland Hospital with head injuries after crashing Wednesday evening. He is not expected to survive.

According to KTVU, the man hit a bump while riding downhill, causing him to go airborne then hitting into the pavement.

Several cyclists who spoke with the station said they aren't surprised to hear about accident due to all the curves and blind spots along the area. Many have posted YouTube clips of their rides and have even nicknamed it "Redwood Racetrack."

Though Redwood Road isn't the steepest or windiest road in the Bay Area, cyclists are attacked to the "workout going up and a fast ride on the way down," according to KTVU.
