Looking for a fun family outing nearby this holiday weekend?

Alameda South Shore Center owner Jamestown, is pleased to announce that The Little Ice Rink at Alameda's South Shore Center will be open through January 21, 2013.

The rink first opened in downtown Alameda in 2011, a gift to the community from Alameda’s Perforce Software Foundation. It is once again being generously supported by the foundation, along with additional sponsors Executive Inn & Suites Embarcadero Cove, Bayside Hotel Oakland and Bank of Alameda.

“We are pleased to offer a home to what has quickly become a local treasure, and invite everyone to come skate at the beach,” said Jamestown COO Michael Phillips. “The rink, along with our Santa House and Winter Wonderland, will be the site of many community-focused holiday activities this year.”

Located on Park Street at Franciscan Way, and adjacent to Petco, the 3,000-square-foot rink offers fun for the whole family. The public is invited to enjoy the grand opening celebration with 25 percent off the cost of skating all day on Nov. 16.

Stay tuned for future guest appearances by local dignitaries and skating celebrities, including Olympic gold medalist Brian Boitano.

The rink will be open seven days a week, Monday through Thursday, from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Friday, Saturday and Sunday, from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The Little Ice Rink is produced and operated by Ice-America, a provider of permanent and seasonal ice rinks supported by industry-leading technology and event production expertise.

Santa Takes to the Ice!

Santa takes to the ice at 2 p.m. on Black Friday, Nov. 23, before heading to the Santa House, where he will be available for photos with children, families and even pets!

Photos will take place in the courtyard adjacent to Daiso and Kohl’s, Nov. 23 through Dec. 24, with photo ops for pets on Dec. 6 and 13. Visit www.alamedasouthshorecenter.com/events for the full schedule.

This year, the center's Santa House will feature a Candy Shop, offering everyone’s favorite treats, from candy canes to fresh fudge. A purchase receipt from the Candy Shop will entitle Little Ice Rink skaters to a sweet deal — a 20 percent discount! Peter’s Kettle Corn will also be on site serving delicious, freshly-popped kettle corn.

Another problem: When notified of a reply to a comment I could click the link in the email to go toRead More the article. That was not possible this time. So because a small minority zooms there computer the layout should be as it is? I don't think so. All that white space means that an article that could be read with just one or two clicks to scroll through is now going to take more scrolling to view. One thing that seems to be missing in today's world are web designers who (1) change the layout just because and (2) web designers who have neglected to consider the audience. The more I look at this layout the less I like it. The font needs to be darker than it is. the blue (like in "announcements") needs to be bolder. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 best), I rank the new "improved" design a 3.
