Frugal Family: Pancake Fundraiser for Africa Trip and Deals for Teens

This week’s Frugal Family focuses on activities for teens. 

• Deal: Stop by 8-10:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 21, for a pancake breakfast that benefits  Growing teens can eat a lot so let them stuff their face with pancakes, bacon, juice and coffee for $10 per person.

• Extra, Extra: All proceeds benefit the First Baptist Chruch and their trip to Africa.

KAPLAN

• Deal: Get briefed on the SATs with a practice test at the library on Saturday, May 21, from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The four-hour Kaplan prep and practice test session is free.
• The Fine Print: Registration is required. Register at the Castro Valley Library or online, www.kaptest.com/enroll/SAT/94546/events
• Extra, Extra: Check out the Kaplan-sponsored follow-up on Tuesday, May 31.
• Good through: Class is scheduled for Saturday, May 21.

• Deal: Stop in for some crafting on Sunday, May 22, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., for kids ages 14 and older. Participants will learn the basics of working with clay and will create a project to take home. The cost of the class is $25.
• The Fine Print: Registration is required.
• Extra, Extra: Check out other teen-friendly classes like “Man Card” Stencil Cards on Wednesday, May 25, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., ages 14 and older.
• Good Through: Dates and times listed above.

• Deal: Teens can learn more about colleges and find ones that will fit their wants and needs. From 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 23, there will be a workshop for teens and their parents to learn more about colleges for free.
• The Fine Print: Class is only offered on the date and time listed above.
• Extra, Extra: The library hosts other college-friendly workshops and classes throughout the year.
• Good Through: Class is scheduled for Monday, May 23.

• Deal: Give your athlete a boost with Castro Valley Track Club at Canyon Middle School, 19600 Cull Canyon Rd. The program is offered monthly to students from second grade all the way through high school. High school athletes can get some extra conditioning and training while middle school athletes can prepare for high school sports.
• The Fine Print: Meetings are available monthly. The next meeting is scheduled for the date and time listed below.
• Extra, Extra: The group also hosts the annual Lake Chabot Trail Challenge half marathon and 5K on June 5th
• Good through: Next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 24, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
