CVSan Earth Day Donation to Dusty Paws Rescue

Castro Valley Sanitary District (CVSan) hosted its 11th annual Earth Day Clean-Up event in April 2013.  For the second year in a row, CVSan provided each volunteer an opportunity to select 1 of 5 local charities to receive $5.00 on their behalf in lieu of receiving an event t-shirt.  CVSan is proudly donating a total of $2,585.00 to local charity groups.  The actual donation amounts per charity are based on each volunteer’s selection.

Dusty Paws Rescue was selected to participate.  Dusty Paws Rescue is an all-volunteer organization whose purpose is to save abandoned, neglected, and/or abused animals by placing them into permanent, safe, stable and caring new homes. The home-based volunteer group in Castro Valley keeps rescued animals in foster care rather than maintaining a permanent housing facility.  Funds donated will go towards the necessary services required for the foster program to get the animals ready for their new forever homes.

Dusty Paws Rescue President, Diane Meranda, and Vice President, Wayne Meranda, attended CVSan’s August board meeting to be presented with a donation of $1,000.00.  Mrs. Meranda thanked CVSan’s Board of Directors for their generous donation.  Mrs. Meranda shared that Dusty Paws Rescue spends approximately $30,000 annually on veterinary bills and the organization focuses fund raising efforts to cover animal medical expenses.  Mrs. Meranda mentioned that prior to receiving the CVSan donation, a stray street dog had gone into seizures and the vet bill was $1,100.00
