Southgate Swim Club Community Pool is in danger of closing! This is our Plea for your help in getting the word out.
Our pool has been a part of the Southgate Community for almost 50 years. Founded in early 1960’s by a local Santa Cruz Surfer, Clarice Roberts, who later settled in Hayward’s Southgate Community.
The doors opened for business April 1964 and has been a thriving part of our community ever since. The Club also currently sponsors the Southgate Penguins Swim Team since 1965.
With the age of the pool it is in dire need of major repairs, but because the pool survives solely on membership dues, swim lesson dues and donations we have to rely mainly on volunteers to help cut the costs of the upkeep and reconstruction.
We have an anonymous donor that has offered to match $10K of donations with the terms – match donations must come from individuals (not organizations or company match donations) also with a deadline of June 30, 2012 to raise the $10K.
We need your help to get the word out to as many people for help in raising these funds.
Southgate Swim Club is the only pool in our community that offers swim lessons, hosts party’s for many of the schools and families and also offers job opportunities to our teenagers.
Many of the other pools in our area have closed down because of financial restraints or cutbacks. This limits the locations that offer swim lessons, swim teams and safe family fun.
We desperately need your help in getting the word out to our surrounding community. Please take a moment to look at our website - www.southgateswimclub.com and if you could find it in your heart to come down to our pool and do a quick story it would be like winning the lotto to us. We are trying very hard to do something positive for our community and would love to let everyone know that you were a huge part of this success!
