Castro Valley Relay for Life

Celebrate!  Remember!  Fight Back!!

The Castro Valley Relay for Life is on July 21 and 22 from 9 a.m. to 9 a.m. the next morning at .

Relay is the American Cancer Society’s signature event.

Participants celebrate cancer survivors at the opening ceremony on Saturday at 9 a.m., remember those lost to the disease during the luminaria ceremony on Saturday at 9 p.m. and fight back through educational activities.

Everyone is invited to attend, support the teams and fight back against cancer.

Relay is an all ages’ event.

The theme this year is around the world in 24 hours and each team will be representing a country. Team campsites will be decorated and activities will be based on their selected country.

Cancer survivors are encouraged to participate in the celebration. They open the event and activities are planned for them throughout the day in our “Survivor Oasis”.

and this year we hope to host more.

In 2011, the Castro Valley event raised more than $105,000. This year the goal is to raise $125,000.

Funds raised support programs such as “Road to Recovery” that provides transportation for patients to their medical appointments and “Look good, Feel Better” that provides consultations and supplies by volunteer cosmetologist.

Both these programs are available at , an event sponsor.

During the 24-hour event, teams will fund raise through various activities such as raffles, games and food sales. There will also be a silent auction.

Activities and entertainment is scheduled for the entire event and will include dancers such as hula and The Bella Dance Troup, singers, Top Shelf, a Motown band and Elvis and Charlie Chaplin impersonators and much more.

For the children, lots of fun activities will be held at Kids Camp and there will be a box car race.

Another problem: When notified of a reply to a comment I could click the link in the email to go toRead More the article. That was not possible this time. So because a small minority zooms there computer the layout should be as it is? I don't think so. All that white space means that an article that could be read with just one or two clicks to scroll through is now going to take more scrolling to view. One thing that seems to be missing in today's world are web designers who (1) change the layout just because and (2) web designers who have neglected to consider the audience. The more I look at this layout the less I like it. The font needs to be darker than it is. the blue (like in "announcements") needs to be bolder. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 best), I rank the new "improved" design a 3.
