certifies businesses that go above and beyond recycling by starting and maintaining activities in each of the 4R categories — Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot (or Represent, Replicate, or Reciprocate).
Beginning July 1, 2012, all businesses that become certified “4R Stars” will receive a cash award ranging from $150 up to $525!
Here’s how the cash award works:
Base Award of $100 + Add-On for Business Size* + Add-On for Diversion**
= Total 4R Star Cash Award
*Small Business: 1-10 employees +$50
Medium Business: 11-25 employees +$100
Large Business: >25 employees +$150
**$5 for each % point above 45% diversion from landfill

In addition to receiving a cash award, 4R Star businesses are also recognized for their achievements with a window decal indicating participation in a recycling program, an ad in the Castro Valley Forum, and periodically through news releases, events, and CVSan’s website.
Early Implementer Awards
In appreciation of those businesses that have already implemented practices to reduce waste and become 4R Stars, all 4R Star businesses (certified by June 30, 2012) will receive an “Early Implementer” award of $150.00. Thank you for being leaders in CVSan, and keep up the good work!
