Nosy Town, Nosy World!

The Black Friday Walmart shooting gets national attention. Well, I have some strong opinions about that. Perhaps, I am as "nosy" as many of the people in our town and our world, but...

The is without a doubt, tragic. The tackling down and holding of an assailant until police arrive, by bystanders is without a doubt, heroic. However, the of the ordeal is without a doubt, a cowardly and pathetic response to gossip being a high-demand commodity in the eyes of the "nosy-person consumer."

The international sharing of this story is a redundant failure. The whole world is talking about a shooting on Black Friday at a Walmart. The vicitm doesn't have a name like "Walmart," but he does have a name.

.

Who is talking about Christopher Murillo? I'd bet the shoes I'm wearing that most of the people that have not forgotten to discuss this story with all their friends and family can't recall the name of the victim without looking it up.

It's just so interesting that it happened on Black Friday at a Walmart. I mean, that's juicy stuff, right?

The media is not to blame. We are to blame. Okay, not me, but you. All of you.

When I'm driving south on I880 and notice an accident on north I880, I don't slow down and turn my head back as far as I can until the sheer force of the act promptly snaps my head back into it's original forward-facing position. Who does that? Oh — but you do that, don't you?  Well, "person who does that," it infuriates me! It further enrages me when you start telling everyone how badly you feel about the situation that you just could have made worse.

That is my point. There it is. Instead of making this a better town and a better world, we are making it worse. I don't believe that is the intentions of most of our good people. Nonetheless, it's the result.

We have our priorities all out of whack. It's like a disease and it's contagious.

If it weren't for nosy people, this story would not have gotten national attention. A mere shooting isn't interesting enough to warrant that. They happen all the time. I say this because it's true. I know this for the same reasons you do.

Our nosy-nature is the demand that media is faced with. We can care less about the gimmicky headlines and more about the people. We can care less about the attackers and more about the victims. We can make all victims equally deserving of attention and support. We can be humble rather than vein. We can care about the details and not about the cliff-notes.

We can change the demand and the supply will change accordingly.

Another problem: When notified of a reply to a comment I could click the link in the email to go toRead More the article. That was not possible this time. So because a small minority zooms there computer the layout should be as it is? I don't think so. All that white space means that an article that could be read with just one or two clicks to scroll through is now going to take more scrolling to view. One thing that seems to be missing in today's world are web designers who (1) change the layout just because and (2) web designers who have neglected to consider the audience. The more I look at this layout the less I like it. The font needs to be darker than it is. the blue (like in "announcements") needs to be bolder. Overall, on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 best), I rank the new "improved" design a 3.
