Patch was bought out by a new company in January and laid off much of its staff. I cover 16 sitesRead Moreon my own right now so the local news is not the same as it was back when there was one editor per site. Patch has also added a national desk and is trying some new things with our approach to the news by sharing some state and national stories in addition to the local news. If you have any tips on local stories, feel free to send them my way! autumn.johnson@patch.com

You can go to castrovalleytv.com for local stuff, or just read the Forum every Wed.

Thanks for the replies. Autumn: I appreciate all the hard work of the past and present PatchRead Moreeditors . I guess my gripe is that I think that the original purpose of producing hyper-local news is still needed, and it is a shame that AOL (and now the new company) have moved away from it. Manny, I agree that castrovalleytv.com is a very good source of local information and news. The Forum is good as well, but the online site doesn't seem to have as much activity as the early Castro Valley Patch had. The newspaper is good too, but it isn't convenient for me (since I live in the hills). With the Patch, I enjoyed the ability to look at not only the CV site, but surrounding sites like San Leandro, Pleasanton and Dublin as well. Now all of them carry similar stories.
