Driver Slightly Injured When Car Slides Into Alley

Accident on Castro Valley Boulevard this morning looked worse than it turned out.

A Thursday morning accident on Castro Valley Boulevard left a car sandwiched between two buildings, but the sole occupant of the vehicle was not badly hurt the California Highway Patrol said.

The trouble began about 10 am when Frank Rees of Castro Valley turned into the parking lot of Jenny's Cafe at 2836 Castro Valley Boulevard, according to CHP Officer Daniel Jacowitz.

Jacowitz said Rees, 92, seems to have stepped on the accelerator when he meant to hit the brakes, causing his Buick Century to hit a metal post, flip upright and slide between two buildings, trapping the driver inside.

Emergency personnel arrived to cut Rees out of the car. They sent him to Eden Hospital with minor injuries.
