Castro Valley Teen Competes In TV Talent Show

Sixteen-year-old Johnny Maxwell will compete for fame and fortune on Fox TV's The X Factor. Britney Spears and Demi Lovato are on the judging panel.

Johnny Maxwell, a 16-year-old junior at Castro Valley High, will compete on The X Factor, a talent show that airs Wednesday and Thursday nights at 8 pm on Fox Television.

Contestants hope to demonstrate the vocal ability, charisma and stage presence to win a $5 million recording contract with Syco/Sony Music and become global superstars or breakout musical acts.

Maxwell, who writes his own rap music, won his spot on The X Factor show during auditions in the spring.

His television performance -- which could air on either Wednesday or Thursday night -- was pre-recorded.

Maxwell's mom, Rachel Hamill, said Johnny will perform an original composition.

Non-disclosure agreements prevent the family from saving anything about the show -- even whether Johnny makes it past this initial round of performances.

But if the Castro Valley teen does advance in the competition, local supporters will have a chance to vote for him during future shows.

Meanwhile, you can track Johnny through his Facebook page and sample his talent in the accompanying YouTube video. It is made with friend Mae Muldez, who is not a part of his TV bid.

Do you know Johnny or his music? What do you think? Would you like to compete on national TV?
